Fort Albany’s Mike Metatawabin has joined up with author and musician Manuel Menrath to present Songs of the Land: A Spoken Word Experience. Menrath is from Luzern, Switzerland.
The live performance will feature Metatawabin’s poetry set to Menrath’s music. The performance will have nine songs with nine poems and will run for about half an hour.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) is currently investigating the deaths of two Indigenous people after having altercations with the Timmins Police Service.
Joey Knapaysweet, 21, had been living in Timmins to access medical services not available in Fort Albany. The Timmins Police responded to a call Saturday morning of Feb. 3 to the Emergency Services Building on Algonquin. According to reports, he had an interaction with Timmins police, which led to him being tasered, and ultimately shot and killed by the police.
Ontario will be working with Webequie, Marten Falls and Nibinamik First Nations to plan and construct a year-round access road into the proposed Ring of Fire mining development site being pursued by Noront Resources Ltd.

Pickle Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to search for a missing woman, Charnelle Masakeyash, who has last seen on November 6, 2015 in Pickle Lake. The OPP is seeking the assistance of the public in locating the missing woman.
Charnelle Masakeyash, 26, is a First Nation female, described as 5’7”, 130 lbs, medium build, straight, shoulder length black hair and has brown eyes.
The Hon. Patty Hajdu, Minister of the Status of Women, and the Hon. Carolyn Bennett Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, will meet with family members on January 6, 2016 to seek input on the design of the national inquiry into MMIWG.
Orientation sessions for family members to learn more about the process will be held on January 5 2016.
