The new hostel in Sioux Lookout could be taking in clients as soon as next week.
Darryl Quedent, director of client services for the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, said the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has approved an occupancy permit. This will allow staff to move in right away. Quedent expects clients may be accepted by the week of Feb. 14.
The Jeremiah McKay Kabayshewekamik is a 100-bed facility that replaces an outdated hostel used to accommodate medical patients from remote First Nations in the Sioux Lookout area.
The $14.3-million hostel is located next to the new Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre, which opened in November.
