Creating constructive solutions to obstacles of mammoth resource development projects like the Ring of Fire and in the grassroots design of a pathway to prosperity for the Matawa First Nations primarily rests with the First Nation peoples of the land. Furthermore, it has been stated time and time again to government officials that their role to support economic initiatives and processes at both the individual First Nation and Tribal Council level is essential to moving forward in the Ring of Fire and beyond.

Marten Falls member earns Queens’ Diamond Jubilee medal

Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth G. Frost, formerly of Pagwa River and a member of the Marten Falls First Nation, was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal by the President of the Canadian Aboriginal Veterans and Serving Members Association on Sept. 8 at a ceremony at the Royal Canadian Legion in Armstrong, BC.

Wawahte is a recently published book, as told to author Robert P. Wells by Indian Residential School Survivors. Written in two parts; the story of three representative survivors, Wawahte also mines Canadian history, bringing the reader to know how colonial “Indian” forced integration has affected so many lives.
The book has been published by Trafford Publishing.
Wells said he hopes the book ends up in every Canadian high school to help educate the country on the effects of residential schools.

This bill dramatically changes Canada’s federal environmental legislation, removing many protections for water, fish, and the environment.
The changes were made without consulting First Nations.

My Heart and Spirit have Come Home

I had migrated to the city quite young as a runaway, running from experiences of childhood sexual abuse, running hoping to leave painful memories behind me, running with no sense of direction and ultimately running without ever realizing how this act would feed into my being totally disconnected from family, community, culture and traditions.
On a deeper level, the disconnect impacted me physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually and I believe this disconnect laid the pathway of vulnerability to HIV for me.
