Lac Seul's Kejick Bay community opened a new bridge that will connect the island of Kejick Bay to the mainland Sept. 25. The community held celebrations for the bridge opening in the community from Sept. 23-25.

Koper Lake protest
The communities of Webequie and Marten Falls staged a protest at Koper Lake Jan. 20. The protest was aimed at stopping mining exploration in the mining hot-spot of the Ring of Fire, which lies in Marten Falls traditional territory.

Lac Seul ice fishing derby
Lac Seul First Nation held its 2nd United Ice Fishing Derby in the White Fish Bay community near Mahkwa Lodge on Jan. 16. 300 participants competed to catch the largest fish and win the grand prize of new 2010 Chevy Silverado truck.

Olympic Torch in Thunder Bay
Runners arrived with the Olympic Torch in Thunder Bay Jan. 3. Ceremonies were held Jan. 3 in Thunder Bay with Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy involved. In the morning of Jan. 4 events were held at Fort William First Nation before the flame continued its journey across Canada.

TIFF visits Sioux Lookout high school
The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) held a workshop at Queen Elizabeth High School in Sioux Lookout Oct. 21. Students had a chance to work with representatives from TIFF and learn all about film making by shooting their own short film.

Tim Cofield show in Sioux Lookout
Tim Cofield performed with guests Ben Nordeen, Evan Hochstedler, Tashiina Buswa and Clement Cospito at the Calvary Baptist Church in Sioux Lookout Sept. 17. Cofield said that this is the fourth time he has performed in Sioux Lookout and the concert is becoming an annual event. Cofield also travels to and performs in some of Ontario's remote First Nation communities.

DFC Volleyball
The Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School senior boys volleyball team is starting to see results as they peak toward the playoffs. The team won its first set of the year Oct. 20 against St. Ignatius High School. While the team dropped two of three (25-16, 25-17), they won the second set 25-23. Two days later, they took the third set from Hillcrest 26-24 after dropping the first two 25-16 and 25-19. Against top-ranked La Verendrye, DFC lost 25-15, 25-21, 25-20.

Supporters of jailed Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inniniwug leaders, rally outside the District Jail in Thunder Bay, March 21, where Counc. Cecilia Begg is held. Begg, along with Chief Donny Morris, four other council members, and community member Bruce Sakakeep were sentenced to six months imprisonment for contempt of court.
