Police upgrade charges in Mishkeegogamang death

Police have upgraded charges against 18-year-old Kecia Leanne Spade of Mishkeegogamang First Nation to first-degree murder.

Spade was originally charged with second-degree murder in the Nov. 8 stabbing death of Mariah Wesley, 18, also from Mishkeegogamang.

Sgt. Jackie George of Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service said murder is first degree when it is planned and deliberate.

Spade is now in custody and appeared in Kenora court Nov. 13.

Det.-Insp. John Horne of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch is continuing the investigation with NAPS.
